I got home from the movies and decided that, despite the snow, taking the dogs for a hike sounded fun.

This morning I went up to SnowBasin to snowshoe to Ogden Overlook with the Ogden Sierra Club. Having hiked the trail in the summer, I knew that it was a bit tough but certainly doable. The trail was packed down, which was nice, and snowshoeing takes a bit more effort, but I made it and […]

Today I started working on the 2013 Hiking List. Started with the Wild Rose Trail Loop. It’s a really nice trail system. We came around a corner and were only a couple dozen yards away from 3 deer on the hillside. They started bounding into the trees when they saw us and unfortunately I still had my camera in it’s pouch and wasn’t able to get it out in time. We only did 1.7 miles cause we took the shortcut instead of the longcut. Whoops. There are a handful of different trails there so I may have to go back and do one of the other routes.
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 1.7 mile loop
Elevation gain: 300 feet

One of my goals for this year is to get outside more often. One of the main ways I plan on accomplishing this is hiking and backpacking. So with that in mind I put together the below list of trails I plan on hiking this year. It’s a pretty ambitious list. These trails were chosen for their proximity and allowance of dogs. As the image below shows the list represents most of the Wasatch Front trails from North Ogden to Bountiful. Last year I hiked around 40 miles total. This list is about 97 miles worth. I’m also going to work on getting the Working Pack Dog title with Blaez.
If anyone is interested in going on some of the hikes just let me know and I’ll keep you in the loop.
I’ve broken this post into multiple pages, with the information for each trail on its own page. You can click on the trail name to go to its page or go through all the pages with the links at the bottom. In the coming weeks I’ll be updating trail information here and there. I’m hoping to get higher resolution maps for everything.
Today we went and hiked Ogden Overlook Trail. This one has been on my bucket list for awhile. It was a 5.5 mile hike. Listed as an easy hike I wasn’t to concerned about it. Whether it was the heat or the fact that it’s been 3 months since our last hike, it was a […]

Erik and I decided to go hike the right hand side of the Green Pond Trail Loop, with the dogs of course. It was a nice day to go hiking; temps in the mid 60’s, overcast skies, and a breeze. I liked the right hand side of the trail a little more as it goes […]

I had originally planned to hike Sunset Trail in Farmington today, but over the weekend found out that Farmington Canyon Road is closed due to a couple rock slides that occurred last year. So instead we decided to go hike Mueller Park Trail up to Big Rock. The trail is a popular mountain biking trail […]
